“Holiness to the Lord-The House of the Lord”

Have you ever wondered why each temple has the phrase Holiness to the Lord, The House of the Lord?

This question came up recently, when my husband, who is not a member he Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, asked me about it, because he was looking at some pictures, he had taken of the Fort Collins temple and noticed the words over the front doors.    I knew that it was because each temple is the house of the Lord, but was there more to it?

I decided to look it up.  How grateful I am that it is so easy it is to just look something up by just grabbing my phone and ask it the question, and the answer is right there.  This is what I found.

“At the entrance of every temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we see the phrase, “Holiness to the Lord- The House of the Lord.”  These words remind us that Jesus Christ is “The Holy One…who leadeth us by the way that we shouldest go” (Isaiah 48:17).

I love this explanation!  Yes, the temple is indeed the house of the Lord, and then it is a place where we can go to learn more about the covenant path, and how to progress on it.

Each time from now on, I will think about this every time I enter the temple doors.

My husband took one of the pictures of the Fort Collins temple and printed it on canvas and had the words “Holiness of the Lord” printed on the left side of the canvas, and “House of the Lord” on the right side.  I thought that it turned out very nice and suggested that he should sell it.  It you would like to see what it looks like and maybe get one for your own house, you can find it here by clicking on this link: Temple Canvas
